Investment platform

One capital base, five disciplines.

Insignia does not pick a sector and hunt for deals in it. It invests where its own families already operate — which is why the platform reads like a family balance sheet rather than a fund mandate.

The premise

Proprietary deal flow, or none at all.

The consortium behind Insignia builds resorts, manufactures chemicals, distributes consumer goods and exports to the United States. Every discipline on this page exists because someone in that room does it for a living.

That is a real constraint. Insignia will not look at a sector nobody in the office understands, and it says no to most of what does reach the table. In exchange, when it says yes, the diligence was done by people who have run the same risk with their own name on the loan.

The four questions

  1. Who operates it, and what have they done before in this exact sector?
  2. What is the downside if the thesis is simply wrong?
  3. What is the exit, specifically, and how long does it take?
  4. How correlated is it with the family's existing business?

Anything that cannot answer all four in one page does not reach a second meeting.

Process

From introduction to committed.

01

Sourced

Through the consortium, an operating company or an operator someone here has already worked beside. Rarely cold.

02

Screened

The four questions, on one page, before anyone travels. Most opportunities end here — that is the point of a screen.

03

Diligenced

Operator references, site visits, legal and title review by admitted counsel, and a downside case written before the upside one.

04

Structured

The entity, the governance and the exit mechanics agreed in writing — then the families that want it are shown it.

Real estate assets that are simply for sale skip most of this — they are listed openly by Insignia International Realty LLC at published asking prices.

Questions

How the platform actually works.

How does an opportunity reach the screening table?
Almost always through the consortium: a founding family's operating company, a counterparty it already trades with, or an operator someone in the office has worked beside. Insignia runs very little cold, unsourced deal flow, which is the main reason it can decline quickly.
What does Insignia look for in a direct deal?
Four things, in order: an operator with skin in the game and a track record in that exact sector; a downside that the family can live with if the thesis is wrong; a realistic and specific exit; and low correlation with the family's existing operating business.
Does Insignia take control positions?
It varies by discipline. In real estate it is often the sponsor or the broker of record. In industrial and consumer it is usually a significant minority alongside founders who keep running the business. In technology it is almost always minority.
Can outside investors co-invest?
Case by case, and only where the structure permits it. Insignia is not a fund and does not market interests to the public; nothing on this site is an offer of securities. Real estate assets are a different matter — those are openly listed for sale.
