FAQ
Questions families actually ask.
Short, direct answers on what a multi-family office does, how Insignia is regulated, what it costs and how a first conversation works.
The basics
What a multi-family office is.
What is a multi-family office, and how is Insignia one?
A multi-family office serves several unrelated families from one shared team, so each family gets institutional-grade advice without paying for a whole in-house staff. Insignia was formed in 2016 around a consortium of Latin American entrepreneurs and now covers wealth management, legal advisory and concierge for all of them.
Who does Insignia work with?
Entrepreneurial families from Latin America — most often first- or second-generation owners of operating businesses — who hold assets in more than one country and want a single team coordinating the United States side of their affairs alongside their existing local advisors.
Does Insignia manage a fund I can buy into?
No. Insignia is not a public fund and nothing on this site is an offer of securities. It invests directly alongside its families, screens opportunities through its own process, and brokers real estate through Insignia International Realty LLC.
What makes a Miami family office useful for a Latin American family?
Miami is where the legal, banking and real estate infrastructure a Latin American family needs in the United States is concentrated, and it is a two- to five-hour flight from most of the region. Insignia keeps a second office in Colombia so both ends are staffed.
How does a first conversation work?
It starts with a call, in Spanish or English, to understand the family's structure and what is already in place. If Insignia is not the right fit, we say so. Nothing is signed and no documents change hands until both sides want a mandate.
Which sectors does Insignia actually invest in?
Five: real estate development and hospitality; industrial and consumer operating companies; technology; contemporary art; and cross-border trade platforms between Latin America and the United States.
Working together
Scope, fees and regulation.
Is there a minimum to work with Insignia?
Insignia does not publish a minimum. What matters more than a number is whether the family's situation actually needs a multi-country office — a family whose assets and people sit in one jurisdiction is usually better served by good local advisors.
What does Insignia charge?
Fees depend on which mandates are engaged and how much of the work the office owns versus coordinates. They are agreed in writing, with scope, before any work begins. Insignia does not earn undisclosed commissions on products it recommends.
Is Insignia a registered investment adviser or a broker-dealer?
Insignia Family Office is a private family office. Real estate is transacted through Insignia International Realty LLC, a licensed Florida brokerage. Where a mandate requires a registered adviser, manager or admitted attorney, that work is routed to the appropriately licensed party and disclosed.
Where is Insignia based?
Headquarters are in Miami Beach, Florida, with a second office in Colombia. The street address is provided at the point of engagement.
Can we invest in Mar de Indias or the Galápagos project?
Those are real estate assets currently for sale, listed by Insignia International Realty at published asking prices. Enquiries go to the broker of record, Mónica Plaza. They are property transactions, not fund subscriptions.
Does Insignia work with families outside Latin America?
The firm's depth is Latin America–United States, and that is where it is genuinely differentiated. Families from other regions with substantial Latin American exposure are a natural fit; families with none are usually better served elsewhere.
How confidential is a first conversation?
Entirely. Nothing is shared outside the office, no documents are requested on a first call, and a mutual confidentiality agreement is signed before any material information changes hands.
